Long-term luggage storage for Shikoku pilgrims
Walk the Shikoku pilgrimage without your suitcase
Leave the luggage you do not need at a partner facility in Tokushima, walk with a lighter load, then collect it from the same place. Paid delivery to an address in Japan is available as an option, and sending your bag to the facility is planned.

Is this service for you?
- You will walk for several weeks and have a suitcase or large bag you do not want to carry.
- You are walking the route in sections, in reverse, or starting somewhere other than Temple 1.
- You expect to return to Tokushima after walking.
- You want to arrange storage and payment online before your trip.
How it works
Book and pay online
Choose your luggage size and the days you will drop it off and collect it, each with a rough time window, and pay by card. If your pickup date is not fixed yet, you can choose a period instead: up to 30 days, or 31–60 days. Once payment is complete, you receive a booking link where you can check your booking number and QR codes and change your dates.
Drop off in Tokushima, or send it
Before you start walking, bring the bag you want stored to the partner facility in Tokushima, on the day and in the time window you chose when booking. At the facility, attach the numbered label we tell you about after booking, then show your drop-off QR code to the staff.
Sending your bag by delivery company is also planned as an extra option.
Receive it and record it
The facility staff scan your QR code and check your bag, then take a photo showing the whole bag and its numbered label as a record.
Keep it while you walk
We keep the bag matched to its intake record. You can change your dates and time windows through your booking link until 23:59 Japan time two days before the visit. We also plan to let you send things you no longer need on the walk, such as things you buy along the way, to the partner facility in Tokushima and add them to your storage.
Pick up in Tokushima, or have it delivered
Collect it from the same place when you finish and come back to Tokushima. Show your pickup QR code, and the bag is checked against its label, the number of bags and the intake photo before it is handed over. If your route takes you elsewhere, you can choose paid delivery to an address in Japan instead.
Prices
These are the prices for dropping a bag off and collecting it from the same partner facility in Tokushima. They are set as our launch prices and do not include delivery within Japan.
| Size | Up to 30 days | 31–60 days |
|---|---|---|
| Small up to 120 cm | ¥9,000 30 days: approx. ¥300/day | ¥11,000 60 days: approx. ¥183/day |
| Medium up to 160 cm | ¥10,000 30 days: approx. ¥333/day | ¥12,000 60 days: approx. ¥200/day |
| Large up to 200 cm | ¥12,000 30 days: approx. ¥400/day | ¥14,000 60 days: approx. ¥233/day |
These are equivalent daily amounts when the full 30 or 60 days are used. Base prices are fixed by period, not charged per day.
- Day 61 onwards: ¥200 per bag per day, up to 90 days
- Optional delivery within Japan: ¥3,500 per bag (¥4,500 to Hokkaido or Okinawa)
At booking you pay for storage only. After we take your bag in, we send an invoice for delivery before dispatch, and we dispatch once it has been paid.
The delivery charge covers the delivery company’s fare and our arrangements, and does not change with the size band. We do not charge extra or refund a difference after dispatch because of the size or weight measured by the delivery company.
Service period
The service is mainly intended for stays of about 30 to 60 days. Thirty days is not a minimum, and the maximum is 90 days. From day 61, the extension charge is ¥200 per bag per day.
The price period is the number of days from drop-off to pickup, counting the day after drop-off as day 1. If your pickup date is not fixed yet, you can still book by choosing a period.
Dropping off and picking up
Dropping off
- At launch, bring your bag to a partner facility in Tokushima before you start walking. The facility name and exact location will follow before bookings open.
- Choose the day and a rough time window when you book. Bookings close at 23:59 Japan time two days before the drop-off day.
- At the facility, show your drop-off QR code and attach the numbered label we tell you about after booking. A photo showing the whole bag and its label is taken as a record. It is never opened.
- Your QR codes appear in your booking link. In case you have no signal on the day, save them to your phone as images before you visit.
- Sending it to us by delivery company is planned as a paid option for anyone who cannot bring the bag in person.
Picking up
- Collect it from the same place you left it when you finish and come back to Tokushima.
- Choose the day and a rough time window for collecting it when you book. If you do not know yet, book by period (up to 30 days, or 31–60 days) and add the date through your booking link once you know.
- Show your pickup QR code. The bag is checked against its label, the number of bags and the intake photo, and handed over. You do not normally need ID. If you cannot show the QR code, we can hand it over only to the person who made the booking, after checking an original photo ID.
- If someone else will collect it for you, share your pickup QR code with them. Do not share it with anyone else.
- You can also choose delivery to an address in Japan. It costs ¥3,500 per bag (¥4,500 to Hokkaido or Okinawa).
The deadline and process for changing a date or time window, and what happens if you are late, are being revised for the Tokushima service. We will not accept a schedule longer than 90 days.
What you can store
Suitcases, backpacks, bags and boxes — including a box of things you decided partway along the trail not to carry any further. Small items are welcome too.
Size is measured as the total dimensions: width + depth + height. Retract the telescopic handle and fold down any movable handles; include any handle parts and wheels that still protrude.
| Size | Total | Typical example |
|---|---|---|
| Small | Up to 120 cm | Cabin-size case, hiking backpack |
| Medium | Up to 160 cm | Standard checked suitcase |
| Large | Up to 200 cm | Large suitcase, large box |
The limit per item is 200 cm in total and 30 kg. More than one item can be stored under a single booking.
Choose the size band when you book and confirm that each bag weighs 30 kg or less. We do not accept items over the limit.
What you must not send
We do not open your luggage, so what is inside it is what you tell us. Please check before you pack.
- Cash and securities
- Passports, ID cards and credit cards
- Valuable or fragile items, including expensive watches, jewellery, cameras, computers, precision equipment, glass, ceramics and musical instruments
- Fresh, opened or homemade food; food that needs temperature control; non-alcoholic drinks; and alcoholic drinks over 24% ABV or of unknown strength
- Living animals and plants; human or animal remains and ashes; memorial tablets and household Buddhist altars
- Dangerous, flammable or explosive goods
- Firearms, ammunition and swords restricted by law
- Harmful chemicals
- Anything that needs to be kept cool or warm
- Liquids that are already leaking or are not packed to meet our leak-prevention conditions
- Wet items, or anything with a strong smell
- Anything illegal
We cannot accept prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Drones, remote-controlled models and medical devices, even if they contain no medicine, are also excluded from the first version of the service.
Sealed retail solid food that can be stored at room temperature, sealed retail alcohol up to 24% ABV, low-risk toiletry liquids, solid supplements, quasi-drugs and solid cosmetics, devices with installed batteries, and ordinary blades and hand tools each have specific conditions. We will not begin accepting an item that needs individual confirmation from a delivery company until that confirmation is complete.
Power banks and spare lithium batteries: Remove them all from your luggage and keep them with you during your pilgrimage. Do not send damaged, swollen or overheating battery-powered devices. Your bag sits for weeks or months next to other travellers’ luggage, so we ask about this again while you book.
How we look after your luggage
- At intake, a photo showing the whole bag and its numbered label is taken. If an obvious major problem is noticed, such as a tear, a crack, a large dent or wetness, that part is photographed and recorded too. Minor scratches are not checked, so the absence of a record does not mean the bag had no damage.
- If it arrives damaged or leaking, we photograph it, separate it from other bags and contact you first.
- At the partner facility in Tokushima, it stays in its recorded place indoors until we prepare it for handover.
Cancellation and refunds
Before intake, we refund all storage charges paid. After intake, the charge for the first 60 days is normally not refunded, but an eligible price-band difference and unused daily charges from day 61 onward are refunded.
The published page is a pre-launch summary. The cost of returning a bag dropped off after a cancellation request is still to be decided, and the official policy will be published before bookings open.
Conditions we are still confirming
- The partner facility in Tokushima: the name, location and handover hours will follow once settled.
- Sending a bag to the facility: the shipping-cost treatment, application method and start date are being confirmed.
- Compensation for loss or damage: insurance arrangements are being confirmed.
- How the storage area is fitted out: security and fire precautions are being confirmed.
- Delivery conditions for restricted items: carrier conditions are being checked for installed batteries, alcohol, liquids, food, supplements, quasi-drugs, solid cosmetics, blades and tools.
All of it will be published in English before booking opens. Nothing on this list will be decided after you have booked.
Questions people ask
- Can I take something out of my bag while it is stored?
-
Not in this first version of the service. Your luggage stays closed from intake until it is handed back to you or passed to the delivery company.
- Can I leave a power bank in the bag if I pack it carefully?
-
No. A normal retail device with its battery installed is only a candidate for acceptance if it meets every safety condition. We do not accept drones, remote-controlled models, valuable or fragile items, or devices showing damage or other abnormalities. We will not begin accepting a device that needs individual confirmation from a delivery company until that confirmation is complete.
- Can I send my bag by delivery company instead?
-
That option is being prepared. The normal way to use the service is to bring your bag to the partner facility in Tokushima before you start walking. The inbound charge, request process and start date will be published here once settled.
- What if I am not coming back to Tokushima?
-
You can choose paid delivery to an address in Japan instead. It costs ¥3,500 per bag (¥4,500 to Hokkaido or Okinawa). The normal way to use the service is to collect it from the partner facility where you left it.
- Are the prices on this page final?
-
The prices in the table are set as our launch prices, per bag and including tax. If we change them later, bookings already confirmed and paid keep their price. Optional onward delivery is ¥3,500 per bag (¥4,500 to Hokkaido or Okinawa).
